Collagen Moisturiser

Collagen Moisturiser vs. Collagen Supplements

With collagen being such a buzzword in the beauty industry, it’s hard to shop around for skincare products without coming across it. You might be looking at beauty supplements, cleansers, masks, moisturisers and more. In any case, you will find products containing collagen. They make bold promises about restoring the levels of that all-important protein in your face. But topical products like a collagen moisturiser are not going to deliver any of the contents of that collagen into your skin. Moreover, they certainly won’t help your body build any new collagen for itself.

Read on to learn why.

What does collagen do for your face?

Collagen is a structural protein that is present throughout your body in connective tissues. This includes tendons, ligaments, bones, muscles and your skin. The skin of the face is very exposed to harsh UV rays and the elements, and it also happens to be more delicate than skin on other parts of your body. The collagen in your face keeps skin looking firm and vibrant. This helps maintain its elasticity and ability to withstand the development of fine lines and wrinkles.

As we age, our collagen levels decline, and the fact that our faces are so exposed means they are one of the first places where collagen loss starts to show. As you move through your thirties and beyond, you may notice things like:

  • Crow’s feet

  • Frown lines

  • Smoker’s lines

  • Horizontal forehead creases

They tend to form around areas where the skin frequently moves with our facial expressions. Think smiling, frowning or squinting. These are a natural part of ageing and many people simply accept them. But by supporting and maintaining your collagen, you can slow the signs of ageing.

What claims do collagen moisturiser products make?

This really depends on the brand. The red flag should be any collagen moisturiser that contains actual collagen and makes claims that it absorbs that into the skin. This is simply not possible, since collagen molecules, even when broken down, are far too large to pass through the top layer of skin. There are many types of molecules that skin can absorb topically. These can deliver some benefits to the skin, but collagen and collagen peptides do not make that list.

Other collagen moisturiser products that include ‘collagen’ in the name do not actually contain any collagen. Instead, they claim to protect collagen with SPF protection and hydrating properties. These types of moisturisers can offer some small benefit to the cause and make up part of a collagen-boosting lifestyle. SPF protection is important because sunlight damages collagen. But you would want quite strong protection during the summertime. Similarly, hydrating the skin can help maintain collagen up to a point. They key is to do your research and ensure the moisturiser you use is high-quality.

It may not be necessary to use a moisturiser that mentions collagen in the name. Topical creams like moisturisers do not specifically do anything for your collagen. But protecting collagen can be a small part of what they do for you.

What ingredients ARE useful in moisturiser?

When it comes to moisturisers, the key is in the name. Your skin is healthier with good hydration - when it is ‘moisturised’. Sun protection is very important and antioxidants can be very helpful in keeping the skin looking fresh and healthy. But you need to ensure the hydrating component of your moisturiser is effective. The following ingredients work very well:

  • Hyaluronic acid

  • Dimethicone

  • Glycerin

  • Propylene

  • Glycol

  • Proteins

Mineral oil, lanolin and petrolatum are very effective at locking in moisture. If you have specific issues with your skin, like acne, eczema or other concerns, your best approach is to consult a dermatologist.

So what is effective for promoting collagen in the face?

Collagen moisturiser products are not the way to go for your face, since those collagen molecules cannot penetrate the skin. But they can enter the bloodstream via the gut, so oral supplements are an effective way of giving your body what it needs to produce new collagen. It works like this:

  1. You swallow a supplement containing collagen peptides. This means collagen broken down into more bioavailable amino acid chains.

  2. The abundant amino acids in the collagen enter your bloodstream.

  3. They provide lots of glycine, proline and hydroxyproline. This stimulates and fuels the synthesis of new collagen at a higher rate.

  4. With lots of new collagen available, your body can maintain collagen levels in skin, joints, bones, muscles and more.

This is a simplified account of what happens that sums up the process. The bottom line is that a high-quality oral collagen supplement can kickstart your collagen production. It can also restore your body’s collagen to more youthful levels so, over time, you can look and feel younger. There is no controlling where the new collagen goes. Thus, a consistent intake over an extended period will ensure you get the benefits to your facial skin.

Do this, and you may also enjoy:

  • More comfort and suppleness in your joints (after 3-6 months)

  • Improved health for your hair and nails (in 6-12 weeks)

  • An increase in bone density (after 6-12 months)

  • Gains in lean muscle mass (if combined with exercise)

Why should I choose Kollo as my collagen supplement?

Development of Kollo followed the science to make the most potent collagen supplement possible. This starts with the collagen peptides themselves. They are premium-grade marine collagen, which is the most bioavailable. It is also type I collagen, which is the most abundant in our bodies. This collagen comes as a 10g daily dosage. According to all existing scientific research, this is the optimal dosage per day. It is capable of delivering the full range of benefits linked to collagen supplementation.

We have elected to provide your collagen dose in a liquid form. The reasons for this are as follows:

  • It ensures an utterly consistent daily dosage

  • The ingredients are ready for absorption – your body doesn't need to break anything down

  • It is easy to incorporate into your daily routine – simply empty a sachet into water

  • We were able to add a great tropical taste from natural, sugar-free flavourings

In addition to the collagen peptides, we have fortified the formula with B vitamins, vitamin C and l-lysine. These ingredients are all known to play a key role in the processes that produce collagen. They also offer a range of other health benefits. Kollo is a multifaceted supplement that primarily aims to boost your collagen. But it also offers benefits for things like energy levels and immunity.

Kollo is 'Informed Sport' certified, so you can put your faith in the quality and safety of our product. We have won many awards and appeared on ITV This Morning, and our 5-star reviews from verified buyers number in the thousands. We are the real deal, and our mission is to help customers look and feel younger by preserving their collagen.

Is Kollo all I need?

A collagen supplement like Kollo is the best way to ensure your body has an abundant and consistent supply of the key nutrients it needs to produce more collagen. But your supplement is just one part of a pro-collagen lifestyle, and you should start by making a few changes where necessary:

  • Reduce your sun exposure and wear sunscreen every day

  • Quit smoking

  • Cut down your intake of refined carbohydrates and sugars

  • Reduce your stress

By taking away these negative behaviours, you can reduce the rate at which your collagen is being damaged and destroyed. You can then counter this with some more positive behaviours. These include eating a balanced diet filled with vitamins, minerals and proteins. Though we have warned against collagen moisturiser products, a good skincare routine is important. This should include things like exfoliating, cleansing and moisturising.

Other important activities and behaviours include:

  • Exercise

  • A healthy amount of sleep each night

  • Drinking lots of water

Take Kollo and make the lifestyle changes listed here. This will prime your body for creating and protecting collagen for maximum health in your skin, joints, bones and beyond. We encourage you to learn more about collagen supplements and Kollo in particular by exploring our website. We have an extensive blog section with a huge range of articles.
