Lysine: What is it even good for?

You might have never come across the word Lysine before, but it’s so important for the body. Not only is it a building block for protein, but it’s also an essential amino acid. Since your body cannot create it, Lysine needs to be obtained from food or supplements. So, without further ado, let’s look at four benefits of this mysterious amino acid.

Reduces those pesky cold sores

Cold sores are caused by a virus called herpes simplex. Did you know that a research study carried out at Southern California University of Health Sciences found that L-lysine was an effective treatment for 87% of participants who had cold sores? So, L-lysine could help you with both pain relief and the healing of cold sores.

Improves bone density

As you probably know, calcium is great for bone health. Your body, however, needs more than just calcium for healthy bones because not only do you need it in your body, you also need it to stay there. L-lysine helps with this!

1. L-lysine helps your bones absorb calcium, increasing bone density, and, therefore, making you stronger.
2. L-lysine also helps reduce calcium depletion.

Helps create collagen

L-lysine is needed for collagen production, and we all want lots of collagen for healthy and plump skin, to minimise signs of ageing and acne, and to promote the growth of healthy hair and nails. In doing this, L-lysine reduces healing time for fractures and wounds.

Lowers stress levels

Reduced levels of L-lysine could cause anxiety due to the reduced levels of serotonin. Not only could L-lysine bring your serotonin levels back up but, as a result, it will reduce stress. Although L-lysine is generally considered safe, if you’re taking prescription medications, remember to consult with your doctor first about taking additional supplements.

Whether you’re looking to improve skin health or to improve recovery times, L-lysine is your key to healthier living using the power of amino acids.

If you’re ready to experience the restorative effects of L-Lysine, don’t forget to top up your supply of Kollo Premium Liquid Collagen – after all, we have over 700 5-star reviews.
